New Rural Action Research Programme from Carnegie Trust

The Carnegie Trust has been awarded £2.2 million from the Big Lottery Fund to launch a new Rural Action Research programme. This has been matched by an additional £750,000 from the Carnegie UK Trust’s own resources.

The purpose of the Rural Action Research Programme will be to demonstrate and pilot practical and cost-effective community led solutions to help shape and influence rural policy.

The Rural Action Research programme will focus on six themes affecting communities in rural areas. These are:

i) Involving rural residents in community planning

ii) Community led service delivery

iii) Models of sustainable management of community buildings

iv) Rebuilding fractured rural communities

v) Training and development needs of those involved in Rural Community Development.

vi) The needs of young people and those in vulnerable occupations in very remote and peripheral areas

The Carnegie UK Trust and Big Lottery Fund will publish a prospectus describing each of the themes and the interventions/research/activities to be commissioned under that theme in March 2005.
