GiveNow.org, the online giving site, is launching a new volunteering section to make the site the first, claims Charities Aid Foundation, for all donors’ giving – whether of time or money.

The new volunteering section on GiveNow.org has been created in partnership with do-it.org.uk, the online database of volunteering opportunities. It allows visitors who want to give up their time to charity to search for opportunities in their local area. They can then identify volunteering opportunities either by
geographical area, by cause, or by the type of work.

Online giving portal GiveNow.org was set up by Charities Aid Foundation, the AOL Time Warner Foundation and AOL UK. It has generated over £230,000 in donations since its launch in 2002. The average gift through the site is £75.

Katrina Keeling, AOL UK’s Head of Corporate Responsibility, said: “Volunteering has really captured people’s imagination in recent years and it makes sense to broaden the scope of GiveNow.org to include a volunteering section. Many Internet users are already going to GiveNow.org to donate to
their chosen charity – now they can also find volunteering vacancies and give their time to help others.”
