Volunteers do-it on St Valentine's Day

Howard Lake | 10 February 2004 | News

Volunteer Bureaux around the country have partnered with national volunteering database site do-it.org.uk to create volunteer social days in towns throughout the UK on 14 February 2004.

The St Valentine’s Day do-it social events follow the success of the do-it dating events of summer 2003. These saw hundreds of community-minded single people give time and effort to good causes while also meeting new people and swapping a few telephone numbers. This year, do-it socials offer “an escape from the madness of St. Valentine’s Day” by getting people together to help at a community project in the local area.

Next week’s events are open to anyone who has some time on their hands and would like to put it to good use whilst meeting like-minded souls.

“It is the chance to be surrounded by like-minded souls who love the idea of making a difference,” explains do-it’s editor, Tom Green. “The activity will be fun and rewarding for the volunteers, and who knows, they might end up making a new friend!”

The www.do-it.org.uk site was launched by Tony Blair in May 2000 and currently provides hundreds of thousands of volunteering opportunities throughout the UK to people of all ages.
