Nationwide to sponsor Macmillan's school fundraising campaign

Howard Lake | 17 December 2003 | News

Nationwide Building Society will again sponsor Macmillan Cancer Relief’s annual sponsored silence event, The Big Hush in 2004.

The ten minute sponsored silence, previously called The Hold Your Tongue Challenge, is in its eighth year and has to date raised nearly £1 million.

It takes place on Friday 13th February or anytime in the Spring term. Next year it takes place at the end of Cancertalk Week (9-13 February 2004). The week-long initiative organised by Macmillan provides schools with an opportunity to talk about cancer and take part in classroom activities to help increase awareness and reduce the fear surrounding the disease.

The charity hopes to raise over £260,000 from the event in 2004.

Jo Sidley, corporate development manager at Macmillan Cancer Relief, said: “This is the fourth year that Nationwide Building Society has sponsored the event and this activity forms part of their long term relationship with us.”
