Evening Standard publishes list of the City's wealthiest

The Evening Standard is listing the City of London’s richest 50 people.

The list is being published in sections from today until Friday, with people being listed in reverse order. Today’s issue covers those ranked from 50th to 43rd.

The Evening Standard says that its list is based on the “50 people whose success is transparent.” It used information publicly available at Companies House and in companies’ reports to arrive at individuals’ wealth. It includes only those still working, and not those who have retired. The list features only those worth over £20 million.

Today’s list includes a focus on “a rising new generation of powerful, fortysomething women.” This includes Robin Saunders who works at WestLB: she is worth £25 million and is ranked at 43rd in the list, the richest woman in the list.

Only three women appear in the top 50 – Philippa Rose, Nicola Horlick and Robin Saunders. The Evening Standard puts this in the context of figures from the Inland Revenue which reports that “of the estimated 326,000 people in Britain who earned £100,000 or more last year, 41,000 or 12 per cent were female – a proportion which has hardly changed in the last few years.”
