London's voluntary sector to access funding books more easily

Voluntary organisations in London will benefit from an injection of thousands of pounds worth of books and information resources as part of a new Community Libraries Project.

Charity sector book publisher The Directory of Social Change (DSC), in partnership with the Bridge House Estate Trust Fund and London Voluntary Service Council, is implementing this project to help CVSs and other host organisations set up a library resource. This will enable local community groups to access funding information and a wealth of information on management, the voluntary sector and charity law.

Following an application process, 12 partner organisations have now been chosen to host the libraries. These are the CVSs in Greenwich, Havering, Merton, Westminster, Harrow, Southwark, Hackney, Barnet, and Waltham Forest, together with the Black Training and Enterprise Unit in Camden, the

Each organisation will receive £1,300 worth of books and information resources from Directory of Social Change¹s core collection and other publishers.

Jo George, the project’s Information Officer, said: “Although small voluntary and community groups can benefit tremendously from information, particularly about funding, second tier organisations often cannot afford to budget for books so this grant will provide a much needed

boost to those community groups in desperate need of support.”
