Newcomers to the Internet may not be aware of some of the older elements of the Net that pre-date the Web. Despite its age, Usenet, for example, remains a useful if underused tool for charities in the UK.

Newcomers to the Internet may not be aware of some of the older elements of the Net that pre-date the Web. Despite its age, Usenet, for example, remains a useful if underused tool for charities in the UK.

In addition to the many charity-specific newsgroups or discussion fora, there is one general charity newsgroup which regularly features fundraising issues. Uk.community.voluntary aims “to provide a forum for the discussion of the activities of UK based charities and voluntary organisations.” You do not have to contribute to the discussions; indeed many users simply “lurk” and use the information posted by others.
