New domain names agreed
Seven new top level domain names have been agreed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. When they become available towards the middle of 2001, they should offer greater choice and specificity for companies, charities and individuals wishing to establish an online presence. On the other hand, they will also very likely set off a series of law suits as existing businesses try to secure the new domain names for their own use.

The new suffixes, at least two of which (.coop and .musuem) would appear to be directly relevant to non-profits, are:

.name (individual use)
.pro (professional use)
.museum (museums)
.coop (business cooperatives)
.aero (aviation industry)
