How many online credit card donations are charities receiving? That is one of the current topics of conversation on the FundUK e-mail discussion list. David Pladgeman, Chairman of the Main Line Steam Trust Limited, reported that, since December 1999, they have received 74 credit card transactions on their join/donate form.

Of these only 13 donated more than one pound, although three people gave £100, the largest donation received. Nevertheless, most donors offered to pay the credit card charge on their purchase.

Interestingly, says Mr Pladgeman, “no-one has used the CAF donate on line facility from our site – this has been running for 12 months.” He adds that “Our web site has around 100 hits/week.” CAF replied to Mr Pladgeman with advice, pointing out that the link to the CAF donation service on his site was incorrect.
