Ticket to success

Major events can prove a lucrative source of income to local charities.

UK Fundraising is published about ten minutes’ cycle ride from the All England Lawn Tennis Club, host of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Each year, the Club resells tickets handed in by departing spectators and donates the income to charity. (I know: I got to see Becker v. Sampras on Centre Court for under a fiver). Our local newspaper reported recently that this year’s re-sale tickets netted a record £40,912 for charity.

Can this idea be adapted for your charity? If you have a major sporting event near your charity office, have you thought of persuading the authorities to resell tickets in aid of your charity or a consortium of local charities?
