Fundraising Everywhere - Legacy and In Memory Conference, September 2026

Remember A Charity Week 2026 launches

Remember A Charity Week (7 to 13 September) launched today with new survey findings on how people think about legacy, alongside a new celebrity supporter for the campaign.

A survey commissioned by Remember A Charity found that 92% of UK adults care about the legacy they leave behind, but for most, that legacy is not primarily about wealth or career success. Being a good friend, partner or family member was cited as the most important aspect of legacy by almost two thirds (64%) of respondents. A third (33%) pointed to helping others in times of need, and three in ten (30%) to passing on values and life lessons. Just 10% saw a successful career or business as central to their legacy.

For charities, the findings underline the case for framing gifts in Wills within the wider motivations that drive giving, connecting legacy gifts to the causes, values and personal experiences that supporters want to carry forward, rather than treating them purely as a fundraising ask.

More than six in ten (62%) of those surveyed said supporting causes they care about matters to them, and over one in five (22%) have already left a gift to charity in their Will, or plan to do so when they write one.

200 charities with the same focus

Remember A Charity Week brings together 200 charities from across the UK to raise awareness of gifts in Wills. This year’s campaign invites people to reflect on what they want to be remembered for, using the hashtag #WhatsMyLegacy, as a way of opening conversations about the role charitable giving can play in that legacy.

Lucinda Frostick, director of Remember A Charity, said:

“For most people, legacy isn’t about fame or fortune. It’s about the people they love, the difference they make to others and the values they want to pass on. That provides a powerful context for charities when talking to supporters about gifts in Wills. Gifts in Wills are already generating billions of pounds for good causes every year, funding vital services and enabling charities to plan for the long term.”

Sherrie Hewson

Benidorm and Coronation Street actor and author Sherrie Hewson is supporting this year’s campaign.

She has raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities after losing her brother to a glioblastoma brain tumour. She said:

“For me, legacy isn’t about what we leave behind for ourselves, it’s about the impact we have on others. That’s why I believe leaving a gift in your Will is such a special thing to do.”

Remember A Charity’s new “Be Remembered” advertising campaign launched today on TV and digital channels, and will continue on digital until the end of November.

It celebrates “the funny moments, interesting hobbies and unique quirks that we remember and cherish about our loved ones”.

The ads will appear across Sky channels, ITVX, Yesterday, Gold and Alibi over the coming weeks
