Yellowstone National Park turned 150 in March, and has come up with the unusual fundraising idea of asking the public to invest in an Inheritance Pass – valid in the year 2172.

The Inheritance Pass is available for a $1,500 donation, and it also comes with a complimentary annual pass to enjoy the park now, valid for the next year.

Donations will fund preservation efforts for the next 150 years, through projects that protect wildlife, preserve resources, and enhance visitor experiences.

The Inheritance Pass is described as a perfect gift to pass down through the family. Those donating before July 2022 will receive the Pass in August 2022, while those donating after that will see their pass shipped in January next year.

Inheritance Pass holders must present their pass to Yellowstone Forever in 2172 to receive equivalent entry to Yellowstone National Park for that year. Yellowstone Forever, the park’s education and fundraising arm, will maintain a record of all Inheritance Pass owners and there is an email address to contact if the pass gets lost.
