Nisa retailers can nominate a local cause to receive up to £1,000

Making a Difference Locally has opened a third round of its Heart of the Community Awards programme, with a focus on supporting communities across the UK to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.

The charity set up by retailer Nisa is inviting Nisa partners (local shop retailers) to nominate a local group, charity or good cause to receive a grant of up to £1,000.

This will help communities celebrate the historic occasion with events such as afternoon teas, garden parties and street parties.

Nominations are open until 18 March 2022. From this 70 recipients will be chosen to receive the grants.

Making a Difference Locally (MADL) suggests that the funding be used towards entertainment, equipment, food and drinks, venue hire or decorations. Each winning good cause will also receive a decorative MADL POS kit with bunting.

How to get nominated?

Nisa retailers choose and nominate a cause via the MADL partner website, providing information on the good cause and event. But MADL is encouraging people to contact or visit their local Nisa store directly, referencing the Heart of the Community Awards and requesting that their charity and event be nominated.

Heart of the Community Awards

The first two rounds of the Heart of the Community Awards have resulted in nearly 90 good causes nationwide receiving donations totalling £310,000. This makes it MADL’s biggest funding giveaway to date.

To date MADL has raised more than £14m for good causes across the UK.

The charity raises funds in Nisa partner stores from sales of all Co-op and Heritage own-label products, a percentage of which goes into a virtual fund for retailers to donate. Additional funds can also be raised via in-store collecting tins, coin spinners and clothing banks. Stores are then able to donate these funds to a local charity or good cause of their choice within a 10 mile radius. As a result money raised will always benefit the very local community.

Kate Carroll, Nisa’s Head of Charity, said: “We received a fantastic response to our two previous rounds of funding, so we’re delighted to be able to bring back the Heart of the Community Awards for a third round of donations.

“This special Jubilee edition of the Awards will give the opportunity for 70 of our fantastic Nisa retailers to celebrate this exciting and joyous event with the communities they serve, bringing people together to mark the Queen’s historic reign.”
