The Charity Retail Association has launched its annual campaign to encourage shoppers to purchase from charity shops this Christmas.

Through #GoodCauseSantaClaus, it is calling on the public to pledge to buy presents from charity shops and to help it spread the word about the wonders of preloved.

Last year, pandemic restrictions announced in December saw non-essential shops, including charity shops, forced to close just before Christmas. Oxfam for one saw high street sales down 50% on the previous year although online retail did well with the charity reporting an increase in online sales of almost 90% on 2019 during the festive period.

Lockdowns have seen more charities turn to selling online with Charity Retail Association figures showing that the average UK charity shop lost over £33,000 in income during the third lockdown, while the Shopiago platform, which works with charities, reported a 151% increase in items sold between February and July this year.
