Christian Aid CEO to step down, & other mover news
Amanda Khozi Mukwashi is stepping down as Christian Aid’s CEO after three years at the helm, while Anaphylaxis Campaign, Mayday, and DataKind Incorporated have all announced new CEOs.
Amanda Khozi Mukwashi to step down as Christian Aid CEO
Amanda Khozi Mukwashi is to step down as CEO of Christian Aid to take up a new role with the United Nations. Since joining Christian Aid in early 2018, Mukwashi has led the organisation through some challenging times, including an organisation-wide restructure and the global Covid-19 pandemic. Over this period, she oversaw the development of Christian Aid’s new Standing Together strategy, with an integrated focus on poverty, power, and prophetic voice. She also announced steps the organisation would take to address racial injustice following the commissioning of an internal report in early 2020. The new three-year race and diversity plan of action included the recruitment of a new Race and Diversity Lead, revision of policies and behavioural goals as well as the creation of safe spaces for continued dialogue.

Simon Williams appointed CEO of Anaphylaxis Campaign
Anaphylaxis Campaign has announced the appointment of Simon Williams as CEO, as of 22 November. Williams succeeds Lynne Regent, who retired in August 2021 after 13 years as Chief Executive. He was Head of External Affairs at HEART UK The Cholesterol Charity and led successful campaigns for better services and access to medicines for people with heart disease, as well as playing a leading role in transforming the charity’s communications, commercial partnerships and income generation.
GOSH Charity appoints David Germain as trustee
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity) has appointed RSA UK&I’s Chief Information Officer, David Germain, to its Charity Board of Trustees. With more than 25 years’ experience as a leader of global technology and digital strategy, Germain will use his expertise to help identify new ways the charity can embrace the digital era and accelerate funding to support the children treated at the hospital. His career has seen him hold positions at numerous institutions prior to RSA, including General Electric, He was also ranked ninth in the Financial Times Top 100 Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Technology Leaders in 2019.
New members of the Board for Digital Poverty Alliance
Lord Knight, Baroness McGregor-Smith, Alex Baldock and Nigel Fine have been named as members of the Board for the Digital Poverty Alliance. The Board will be responsible for overall strategic leadership of the Digital Poverty Alliance. The Digital Poverty Alliance, which is backed by Currys and the Institute of Engineering and Technology, was formed earlier this year as a response to the issues highlighted by increased reliance on digital technology during the pandemic. The charity aims to unite and convene individuals, organisations and government for sustainable action to end digital poverty. In 2022, it aims to create a national digital poverty delivery plan, with the aim of helping lift hundreds of thousands out of digital poverty, and making a positive impact on overall levels of poverty in the UK.
Scottish Huntington’s Association announces trustee appointments
Scottish Huntington’s Association has appointed two new members to its Board of Trustees. Professor Lorna Milne, Master of the United College and Deputy Principal at the University of St Andrews, and Gillian McNab (pictured), a palliative care nurse at Strathcarron Hospice and volunteer SHA fundraiser and advocate, bring extensive professional and personal insights to the Board.
Alex Fox to take up CEO role at Mayday
Mayday has appointed Alex Fox OBE as CEO, joining the team in early 2022. Fox joins Mayday from Shared Lives Plus. In 2018 he published a book, Escaping the Invisible Asylum, which calls for a radical change in the relationships between people and the services and institutions within the social care sector. He is also Vice Chair of Think Local, Act Personal, and a senior visiting fellow at Birmingham University. Having led a government review of health and care charities, he recently featured Mayday’s work in Meeting as Equals, a Royal Society of Arts/ National Council of Voluntary Organisations report on building ‘asset-based’ charities. Fox takes over at Mayday from Pat McArdle, who led the organisation from 2010, before stepping down this August.
Lauren Woodman joins DataKind Incorporated as CEO
Lauren Woodman has joined US nonprofit DataKind Incorporated as CEO. Woodman’s most recent position was as CEO of NetHope, a consortium of global nonprofits empowering organisations to change the world through technology. Prior to assuming the leadership role at NetHope in 2014, she served as the General Manager of Education Programs for Microsoft where she was responsible for the company’s flagship education program, Partners in Learning (PIL), a 15-year, $750 million investment to help educators use technology effectively in teaching and learning. In addition to her work in the private sector, Woodman has held a variety of positions in government and with the United Nations.
