With news that the Vegetarian Society has appointed its next CEO, and that Bond has a new Director of Finance and People, here’s our round up of recent charity sector movers.

Richard McIlwain joins The Vegetarian Society as CEO

The Vegetarian Society has announced that Richard McIlwain has been appointed as its Chief Executive. He takes up leadership of the world’s oldest vegetarian society at a critical time, in which the interlinked issues of climate change, diet and animal welfare all demand urgent action. McIlwain has a strong track record in the environmental sector, firstly with the Environment Agency and for the past 11 years with Keep Britain Tidy as Deputy Chief Executive.

Kath Qualtrough appointed as Bond Director of Finance & People

Kath Qualtrough will be joining Bond in October as its new Director of Finance and People following her work with Safe Passage International, where she led the HR and finance functions during the lockdown period. Qualtrough has been working across the NGO and charity sector for over 20 years and has held various senior finance roles including at Greenpeace and at the Wellcome Trust, having moved into the sector following her ACA training with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London. She has a particular interest in programme finance and has run training on the FMDPro qualification with Humentum in the Middle East, as well as leading EC contract management training for Christian Aid in Latin America and for WaterAid in Southern Africa.


Fundraising Everywhere & Everywhere+ appoints Alex Aggidis

Alex Aggidis has joined Fundraising Everywhere & Everywhere+ as Head of Growth Marketing. Aggidis has worked in a number of fundraising roles from Corporate to Major Gifts to Product Innovation, specialising in Individual Giving. Most recently, she was Interim Head of Individual Giving at Friends of the Earth, leading her team to raise sustainable income from engaged and motivated donors, inspired by the cause to protect people and planet.


Nicola Reames joins Anderson Quigley

Executive search firm Anderson Quigley has appointed Nicola Reames as Partner with responsibility of developing its presence in the fundraising and independent schools markets. Reames has 17 years’ experience of recruiting senior philanthropic fundraising positions across higher education, schools, and the wider not-for-profit sector. She brings particular expertise in the major and principal gift fundraising market and has built philanthropy teams at many Russell Group and post-1992 universities, Oxbridge colleges, independent schools, top national charities and household cultural institutions.


Colin Lawrence joins MediCinema as CEO

Colin Lawrence has been appointed as MediCinema’s new Chief Executive Officer. Colin is the former National Theatre Commercial and Media Director and prior to his time at the NT was Global Director Distribution and Board member of BBC Global News. Colin will take up the reigns with immediate effect from Interim CEO Crispin Lilly. Colin spent over three years at the National Theatre where he was responsible for digital and filmed content ventures including NT Live, and the launch of the National Theatre Collection for schools and colleges. Previously he served on the board of BBC Global News, latterly as Global Director for Distribution, setting strategy, driving revenue and delivering a transformation agenda from TV network to multi-platform content provider. He spent his early career in commercial television, both in Europe and Asia.


Marie Curie appoints Maria Novell as Chief Fundraising, Communications & Marketing Officer

Maria Novell will be leaving her role as Fundraising and Commercial Director at Guide Dogs at the end of November after 14 years to take the role of Chief Fundraising, Communications and Marketing Officer at Marie Curie. Taking up the role from 13 December, she will replace Nicky Bishop, Interim Executive Director of Fundraising and Engagement. Novell has worked in PR, Marketing and Fundraising roles her entire career and prior to Guide Dogs worked at the RNLI and the British Liver Trust.
