Deerhurst care home & their summer beach

From help with building a summer beach for care home residents to raising funds through coffee mornings and staff donating an hour of pay, here’s a round up of seven ways companies are supporting good causes.

Maritime Volunteer Service & The Caledonian Foundation

The Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS) has announced that The Caledonia Investments Charitable Foundation (Caledonia Foundation) is to sponsor it for the next three years. The Caledonia Foundation is providing £75,000 a year to enable the MVS to significantly expand and improve its capabilities as both a training and community support organisation. In the first year there will be an emphasis on assisting MVS Units around the UK to recover financially from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic as well as developing an in-house RYA power boat training capability and maintaining the charity’s larger national training vessels. In the following two years there will be a focus on expanding a pool of instructors in the wide range of skills the charity requires and supporting members to acquire the skills they need to carry out their operations.

Bipolar UK & The Access Group

The Access Group has announced Bipolar UK as its UK Charity of the Year for 2021/2022, pledging to match every pound its people raise. Each year, employees at Access vote for their chosen charity and Bipolar UK has been chosen as the company’s latest charity partner after a staff member nominated them following her daughter’s diagnosis of bipolar.  Having raised over £370,000 for the National Deaf Children’s Society in 2021, Access is encouraging all its UK-based people to raise funds for Bipolar UK with a wide number of fundraising events across the company’s offices and online now being organised.

Charity Film Awards

Companies that have produced a CSR film are invited to enter the Charity Film Awards. The category is open to all film and video projects by brands and corporations. To enter, the film or advert must have been broadcast to the public in the past 18 months. Any film entered must promote a cause, issue or societal agenda, beyond pure commercial objectives, and subjects may reflect the environment, diversity and inclusion, health and wellbeing, social justice or wider civic responsibility. Individual firms, groups of companies or Agencies can all enter a film into this category, free of charge. They simply need to fill out a few details and submit a YouTube or Vimeo link.

Lamp & Tokio Marine HCC International

Specialty insurance group Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) has chosen to continue its charity partnership with Lamp (Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project). The company has donated £22,000 to Lamp over a two-year period, as well as raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing issues and organising fundraising activities. Working with Lamp to raise awareness of its mental health support projects, the Leicestershire-based employees are planning on attending coffee mornings and educational workshops. TMHCCI staff have also raised funds for Lamp through initiatives such as Give an Hour, a scheme where individuals can donate an hour of their pay and Tokio Marine HCC International will match the contribution.

Deerhurst care home & CR Windows

CR Windows, a 40-year-old Bristol based window company, have made a donation to Deerhurst care home, allowing them to make their on-site beach and garden a paradise once again. CR Windows owners, Dean Lancaster, Production Director, and Mark Brown, Managing Director, donated £250 to their local care home so the residents could enjoy the summer in style, relaxing at their very own beach. The donation enabled the home to buy a new paddling pool, volleyball set, surf boards, beach balls, umbrellas and embark on a big beach clean up.

GOSH Charity, Tŷ Hafan & The Red Dragon Centre

The Red Dragon Centre is celebrating ‘One Great Day’, a charity fundraising event in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH) and local children’s health charities. Alongside raising money for GOSH, the Red Dragon Centre will fundraise for local Welsh charity Tŷ Hafan, with all funds raised being split equally between the two charities. The entertainment centre in Cardiff Bay is inviting visitors to enjoy a day out this September and donate at the QR point underneath the One Great Day balloon arch. Alternatively, Ty Hafan fundraisers will be on hand to accept donations on the same weekend as the release of No Time to Die and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Other activity includes the Centre’s management, security and cleaning staff taking part in a steps challenge throughout the month, with a target of 152 miles – the distance from The Red Dragon Centre to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Raleigh International & Air Partner

Global aviation services group Air Partner has partnered with Raleigh International. Air Partner will appoint project leaders on Raleigh International’s conservation projects and initiatives that involve rewilding and nature conservation, while raising funds to fight climate change. Employees will also receive training on environmental campaigning skills and oversee the leadership development and health & safety of a group of young volunteers aged 18-24. A number of employees are also taking part in Raleigh’s Tree Planting Action Challenge in Scotland.
