A short round up of the latest celebrity news – from Ashley & Jordan Banjo supporting FareShare with Old El Paso, to Jonathan Pryce narrating an ad for Dogs Trust, and UK rock band the Wildhearts supporting Welsh charity Huggard.

The Wildhearts & Huggard

UK rock band, the Wildhearts, is opening its UK tour this September with a concert in aid of Huggard, which supports people sleeping rough in Wales. The gig at the Tramshed in Cardiff on Friday 3 September, is the start of an 18-date schedule taking the band from Wales to venues in England and Scotland.

Ashley & Jordan Banjo & FareShare

Old El Paso ambassador, dancer and TV personality Ashley Banjo and Jordan Banjo took part in the Slam Dunk #MessFreeChallenge recently, which also supported FareShare. The challenge saw a pop-up billboard complete with basketball hoop hit Westfield Stratford City on 28 July. Budding LeBrons had to grab a free Old El Paso Tortilla Pocket™ and show off their best slam dunk – all while keeping the wrap intact. Every dunk scored meant Old El Paso™ donated 10 Mexican meal products* to FareShare, with up to 12,000 in total available to be donated.


Hugh Dennis & Alzheimer’s Society

Celebrities are backing Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walks taking place this September and October. Among them are comedians Hugh Dennis and John Bishop along with Only Fools and Horses’ actor Sue Holderness who will be taking part in memory of her late mother. Actor Sally Lindsay who starred in Still Open All Hours and has recently finished filming her latest project, will also be attending a walk, in memory of her grandmother.


Jonathan Pryce & Dogs Trust

Dogs Trust’s latest campaign features academy award nominee, and acting legend, Jonathan Pryce. Created by independent creative agency, Creature, the film showcases the charity’s Canine Care Card. Narrated by Pryce, The film stars Wilf, a dog who loves his owner’s bright yellow pants so much that he’ll get up to all sorts of mischief to get his paws on them – from standing guard by the washing machine to making off with them after a wild swimming session.


Rinsola Babajide & War Child UK

War Child UK has appointed rising football star Rinsola Babajide as its first ever sports ambassador. Babajide is a professional football player who most recently represented Liverpool Women’s FC and has featured in the England Lionesses squad. Starting her career at Crystal Palace, she received her first England senior call up in 2020. Now, she will also be lending her support and voice to raise awareness of War Child’s work in protecting, educating and standing up for the rights of children living through conflict.


Cliff Richard & Variety

A host of celebrities including Keith Lemon, Vic Reeves, David Walliams, Brian May, Sir Cliff Richard, Jeremy Vine, Heather Small, Dame Shirley Bassey, Jason Manford, All Saints, Lorraine Kelly and Adam Hills have donated some of their favourite items towards Variety’s online auction, which launched on 28 July, in a bid to raise funds severely depleted by the coronavirus. Held in partnership with Charitystars.com, the auction is led by comedian and radio and television presenter, Adam Hills.
