The Halifax Foundation in Northern Ireland has launched a new strategy for 2020-2023.

‘A Vision for the Future’ is based on research carried out in the voluntary sector and will see the creation of four grants programmes. The Foundation says it will now have programmes ‘streamlined to ensure charities can spend more time delivering their essential work, rather than completing lengthy application forms’.

The small, medium, long term grant and special initiatives programmes will only be for charities with an income of under £1 million.

The Halifax Foundation in Northern Ireland‘s small community grant programme will provide up to £2,500 while medium grants will be £2,500 to £10,000. The strategy does not change Halifax’s general areas of giving which are disadvantaged and disabled.

Long term community grants of up to £50,000 over three years will be available for applications from January. The Foundation says it will use its ‘Grants Plus’ approach for these applications.

The fourth grant programme, ‘Special Initiatives,’ is described as strategic in nature with a Northern Ireland wide impact. £20,000 will be provided over two years.

The Foundation will also offer a pre-application meeting and each applicant will receive a telephone call from one of their grant officers to explain their project in more detail.

Grant recipients have the opportunity to apply for a laptop, pc or tablet to support administration via Computer Recyclers UK. Other non-financial support includes one to one financial management advice and a mentoring service with Lloyds Bank staff.

In the Foundation’s most recent grant giving quarter of the Community Grant Programme, £264,440 was awarded to 57 charities. Last year £1.5 million was given out in grants, up from £1.3 million the year before.
