The world’s first cake-baking-cake is raising funds for The Grand Appeal in Bristol until Christmas.

Cake designers Peboryon created the cake with The Grand Appeal, which was unveiled at Birmingham NEC’s Cake International earlier this month. Featuring Wallace & Gromit and designed in collaboration with Aardman, the ‘Cake-O-Matic’ has moving parts and takes spectators on a journey from the mixing bowl to the final baked product, once activated by a golden token.

The two-metre long cake is now on display and free to visit at the Gromit Unleashed shop at The Mall at Bristol’s Cribbs Causeway until Christmas. Shoppers are invited to give donation to start the cake-baking-cake and can then take home a mini-cake produced by the Cake-O-Matic at the end.

The Cake-O-Matic celebrates Aardman’s 40th anniversary and its 21-year partnership with The Grand Appeal. Inspired by the contraptions created by Wallace and Gromit, it show the characters doing their part to raise funds for charity, by baking cakes for sick children.

All proceeds from the Cake-O-Matic cakes will support The Grand Appeal’s £1.5 million Home from Home Appeal to fund new family accommodation at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Suzanne Maverick, fundraising manager, The Grand Appeal, said:

“The money raised by our £1.5 million Home from Home Appeal will provide new accommodation to give families somewhere to stay just minutes from the hospital, so that they can be there for their child.

“We’re so grateful to Peboryon for creating this amazing masterpiece, which will raise vital funds and awareness for Bristol Children’s Hospital. We’re hoping this cracking contraption will inspire bakers across Bristol and the South West to whip up their whisks and hold their own BIG Bakes, to help bake a difference.”

The Grand Appeal’s BIG Bake asks people to hold a bake sale at any time throughout the year to raise funds for the charity.
