Bring Your Dog to Work Day attempts to calm the nation

Melanie May | 24 June 2016 | News

With perfect timing on a day when office discussions could need some calming, today is Bring Your Dog to Work Day.
The initiative was created by natural pet grooming product company HOWND, and raises money for All Dogs Matter through business and individual donations. Businesses are able to participate by becoming an official sponsor, which in return for a minimum donation of £50, sees the company logo and a link to its website displayed on Bring Your Dog to Work Day’s homepage.
Individuals can donate via text or online, and for £2 or more, are able to upload an image of their dog that will be published on the site’s ‘Dog with a Job’ Hall of Fame along with its work duties for the day. An online donation of £5 or more automatically enters the supporter into the #BringYourDogToWorkDay competition for the opportunity to win a range of prizes.

Celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Rachel Riley have voiced their support for the event, which last year saw the hashtag #BringYourDoToWorkDay trend on Twitter and mentioned on Instagram over 9,000 times.
Mark Hirschel, co-founder of HOWND, said:

“Our hope is that Bring Your Dog To Work Day might provide some light relief to what has been a long and bitter campaign. We have always brought our dogs Roxy and Laila to work with us, and they really do provide a positive talking point for teams that are facing tight deadlines or tense situations. Our feeling is that employees across the UK could use such a distraction.”
