Nominate a local charity for TSB Charitable Partnership

Nominate a local charity for TSB Charitable Partnership

TSB Bank plc is inviting public nominations for local charities and groups to receive support from nearly 500 of its local branches. Selected charities will benefit from fundraising and volunteering support.

In 2015 nearly 500 small, local charities and voluntary organisations received a total of nearly £500,000 in donations from their local TSB staff and customers. Nominations for this year’s charities are now open.

Benefits to charities

Charities and groups that are selected will be matched to a TSB branch or administrative site, and will staff will agree how best to support them. This might involve:

  • undertaking fundraising activities
  • volunteering their time and skills
  • supporting promotional and awareness activities in the local area

Participating branches will aim to raise an agreed sum or donate a number of volunteering hours, but there is of course no guarantee that they will do so.

Who can nominate?

Nominations can be made by members of the public. Charities and groups themselves are not being invited to apply but of course individual staff, volunteers or donors could nominate their charity.

You do not need to be a TSB customer to nominate. There is no fee involved. Those nominating however must be 18 or over and resident in the UK. TSB staff (or ‘partners’) and their family members can also submit nominations.

You can nominate as many eligible organisations as you wish. Nominations can be made in TSB branches using a nomination form or online via the TSB website.

Nominations are open between 9am on 9 May 2016 and 5pm on 22 May 2016.

Which organisations qualify?

Nominations can be made for

  • a charity (which can be a charitable trust, charitable incorporated organisation, charitable company or unincorporated association, either registered with the Charity Commission/Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, or that can demonstrate its charitable status by, for example, a tax reference number from HM Revenue & Customs), or
  • another not for profit organisation, like a community interest company, registered societies or not for profit company limited by guarantee.

To eligible organisations must support the local community either directly or indirectly. Indeed, the TSB Charitable Partners initiative is intended to support the local economy around its branches.

There is a detailed list of types of cause that do not qualify, including:

  • National charities, including local branches of national charities
  • Organisations that support or promote animal welfare/animal rights

Bola Gibson, Head of Community Engagement at TSB, said:

“Our Local Charity Partnership programme is all about helping the local causes that are the lifeblood of many communities across Britain. We understand the important role that they play for so many, and to be able to give a little back means a lot to the TSB Partners. Their efforts have really made a difference, and in total they have already raised over £450,000 for over 460 local causes”.
