€1 ask in €1 million Irish fundraising campaign

Howard Lake | 26 April 2016 | News

A new fundraising initiative in Ireland aims to raise €1 million in one day for youth homelessness.
One For Ireland is asking people to donate €1 on 29th April 2016 for a range of projects to help the homeless throughout Ireland. The campaign will invite donations online, via mobile phones, cheques/electronic transfer and when paying for goods in any retailer, petrol or coffee shop around Ireland.
Retail customers have the option to add €1 to whatever they are purchasing. That euro will be credited to One for Ireland via PayPal. One for Ireland will run in over 1,500 stores nationwide and Paypal are waiving their fees for the day.
In partnership with The Irish Youth Foundation, organisers say the funds raised by One for Ireland will make “a real and lasting difference to Youth Homeless people all around Ireland”. As well as the Irish Youth Foundation, St Vincent de Paul, Simon Community, Peter McVerry Trust and Focus Ireland will deliver projects on a regional basis.
While most of the focus is on April 29th to raise funds for homelessness the organisers say they will strive to make sure that the One for Ireland movement is not a one-off. As part of the One for Ireland plan they say they will bring together leading voices on the issue of homelessness as part of an advocacy plan to lobby for meaningful change and ensure that no young person should have to become homeless.
