The UK Community Foundations have announced that their Winter Flood Recovery Appeals raised £14.6m, following matched funding by the Government.
Campaigns were launched in in Cumbria, Calderdale, Leeds, Lancashire, York and North Yorkshire, Scotland and Wales to help areas affected by this winter’s storms. Large donations were also received from Comic Relief, Walmart and Howdens, and umbrella organisation UK Community Foundations (UKCF) launched its own appeal on 30th December, distributing funds raised to the areas affected.
Immediate relief grants funded emergency costs for shelter, food and clothing with the community foundations now focusing on supporting people returning to their own homes and assisting in repairing local businesses.
Fabian French, chief executive of UKCF said:

“It is remarkable how much money has been raised in a short period of time to help people in very real need. The Winter Flood Recovery Campaign shows how strongly individuals and businesses feel about supporting their own communities. This generosity has enabled the community foundation network to make grants to thousands of people throughout the UK.”
