Walmart donates to UK flood appeal

Flood recovery efforts following December’s storms have received a boost with a donation of £175,000 by the Walmart Foundation.
The charitable arm of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the parent company of Asda, the Walmart Foundation has donated the money to UK Community Foundations’ UK Winter Flood Recovery Appeal. Overall, the Asda and Walmart Foundations have contributed more than £675,000 to help flood recovery efforts, with £500,000 from the Asda Foundation’s local disaster fund already helping local communities affected by the flooding.
The additional £175,000 will be shared amongst the eight UK community foundations in the areas currently devastated by flood and storm damage to help support clean-up operations, emergency repairs, and to provide clothing, food, water, heating and child care.
UKCF chief executive, Fabian French said:

“We are delighted to have received such a generous grant from the Walmart Foundation.  The donation will go to locally managed programmes that will make a positive impact on their communities.”
