European Commission competition seeks ideas to help refugees and migrants

Melanie May | 1 March 2016 | News

The European Commission is seeking ideas and entries to help support the integration and reception of refugees and migrants with the launch of the 2016 European Social Innovation Competition.
Themed ‘Integrated Futures’ this year’s competition launched in Amsterdam last month (pictured) and is looking for ideas including:
Education and skills development
Employment and entrepreneurship
Access to appropriate housing and health services
Safety and human rights
Community cohesion and cultural diversity.
The competition is open to individuals, groups and organisations across the European Union and in countries participating in the European Horizon 2020 programme. Applications that are led by or have been co-created with refugees and migrants are also particularly welcome.
Thirty semi-finalists will be invited to a social innovation mentoring academy in Berlin in July to help progress their ideas. The three best projects will then each be awarded €50,000 at an awards ceremony in Brussels in October.
Applications are open until noon on Friday 8 April 2016, Central European Time. Full details are available at: http://ec.europa.eu/growth/social-innovation-competition
