Text Santa 2015 beats previous fundraising totals
ITV’s 2015 Text Santa appeal was the most successful ever, raising £11m by text and increasing the previous year’s total by 75 percent.
‘Text Santa Christmas Jumper Day’ saw £11m raised by 8th January when the donation phone lines closed. An extra £1m was raised through Primark’s donation of £1.50 for every Christmas jumper sale, and another £2m through the government’s matching of public donations for Text Santa charity Save the Children’s international work.
The money goes to the three 2015 Text Santa nominated charities: Macmillan Cancer Support, Make-A-Wish UK and Save the Children. The charities have already received the first installment of funds raised, with the rest due to follow by April.
Since its launch in 2011, Text Santa has raised more than £32 million, with 100 percent of all donations going directly to the nominated charities.
Text Santa presenter Phillip Schofield said:
“Text Santa was even bigger and better in 2015 with an amazing result of £11m helping the three Text Santa charities. It’s a great achievement.”
