PDSA & Arboretum launch Paws for Remembrance event

Melanie May | 4 February 2016 | News

PDSA has partnered with the Royal British Legion’s National Memorial Arboretum to invite dog owners to take part in a 5k walk around the Arboretum’s Staffordshire grounds and learn more about some of the people, and animals, that have served the country.

Paws for Remembrance takes place on Valentine’s Day for a £5 donation, with participants invited to view and learn about the Arboretum’s memorials as well as meet PDSA nurses who will provide free wellbeing MOTs for dogs, and answer visitors’ questions about their pets.

Family-friendly activities including medal making will also be on offer, along with the chance to view PDSA videos featuring its Animal Awards Programme. This comprises three globally recognised medals, including the PDSA Dickin Medal, which honours animals for gallantry in military conflict.

Sarah Montgomery, managing director of the Arboretum, said:

“We always try to be as inclusive as possible and this event provides an innovative way in which dog walkers can pay their respects to the fallen whilst ensuring the utmost respect for the memorials and trees in our 150-acre site.”
