Give & Gain Day 2016 seeks projects & volunteers

More than 30,000 people worldwide are expected to volunteer for this year’s Give & Gain Day, which is now open for registration by both volunteering businesses and community organisations seeking helpers.
Run by the charity Business in the Community (BITC), the global day of employee volunteering takes place on 20th May this year and is now in its ninth year. It will see thousands of people from companies volunteering in community organisations, social enterprises, and schools.
Last year’s event was the biggest to date. 31,522 employees took part globally: an increase of 16% from 2014, across 36 countries, and supporting 554 community organisations. In the UK alone, businesses donated time worth £2.37 million in 2015, with 18,930 volunteers.
Stephen Howard, chief executive of Business in the Community, said:

“Give & Gain Day is all about celebrating what can be achieved in communities through the power of volunteers – but it’s more than just a day and we urge businesses that take part to use it as a springboard into deeper long term engagement in communities across the UK all year round.”

Interested parties can register on the BITC site. Businesses can ask for a project to volunteer on, or can organise their own activities and register them via the site, and community groups and schools can also apply for volunteers on the site.
