Popcorn sales raise over £15,000 for CLIC Sargent
A partnership between snack brand Metcalfe’s skinny and CLIC Sargent, the cancer charity for children and young people, has raised over £15,000 in its first year.
In February 2014 Metcalfe’s skinny renamed its Sea Salt skinny popcorn to CLIC Sargent Salt Topcorn, complete with the charity’s logo and distinctive magenta branding. For each packet sold, Metcalfe’s skinny made a donation to the charity.
You might have seen them in Sainsbury’s, Tesco or Waitrose supermarkets or in coffee shops such as Caffe Nero.
Over £11,000 has been raised by sales of the charity popcorn. A further £4,000 was raised by staff at the company taking part in sponsored cycle rides, CLIC Sargent’s Wig Wednesday and other events.
New variety pack
The company has now launched a variety pack which includes the CLIC Sargent Salt popcorn, so it expects to make an even bigger donation to the charity next year. The partnership will continue for another two years.
Lucy Caldicott, Director of Fundraising at CLIC Sargent said:
“Eating delicious popcorn while raising money for a good cause at the same time is proving pretty popular – and we’re absolutely delighted! With the support of the lovely people at Metcalfe’s Food Company we’re working hard to put the money raised to good use, and helping children and young people cope with cancer and get the most out of life”.

Metcalfe’s Food Company, which owns the Metcalfe’s skinny brand, was founded by Julian Metcalfe, founder of the Pret A Manger and itsu food retail chains.
Julian Metcalfe, Creative Director of Metcalfe’s Food Company said:
“We’re hoping to raise at least another £20,000 for CLIC Sargent in the next two years. If we reach our total, it means the money raised could pay for 1,000 overnight stays at CLIC Sargent’s brilliant Homes from Home – so get snacking!”
