Scotland’s charity regulator (OSCR) plans to publish charity accounts

Howard Lake | 9 February 2015 | Blogs

In its latest newsletter, Scotland’s charity regulator (OSCR) sends a big thank you to everyone who responded to its recent consultation on proposed changes to the way it works, and in particular how OSCR plans to monitor charities in the future. This was OSCR’s biggest ever result with over 300 responses, and has helped OSCR in developing its final proposals. OSCR will be publishing its report on the consultation in the next few weeks.
One item that OSCR is working on is its plan to publish the annual reports and accounts for all SCIOs, and for charities with an annual income over £25,000, on the Register. The Charity Commission for England and Wales have done so for some time, and OSCR believes it’s a big step in reinforcing transparency and, ultimately, public confidence. The public already has the right of access to charities’ most recent set of accounts on request, so this proposal really just makes it even easier to view useful information about charities and their work.
In the meantime, if your charity has a website and does it already publish accounts? If so, OSCR is happy to provide a link from your charity’s Register entry. OSCR has already done so for hundreds of charities and if you’d like to join them, please email OSCR on co************@os**.uk.
