Fundraising Camp comes to Scotland

Howard Lake | 11 September 2014 | News

Fundraising Camp, UK Fundraising’s series of one-day unstructured conferences for fundraisers, this month comes to Scotland for the first time. It takes place at Volunteering Scotland in Stirling on 29 September.
This is the seventh event in the series, following Fundraising Camps held at Oxford, Leeds, Canterbury, Chichester, London and Peterborough.
The event is designed to offer an alternative and even enjoyable learning event for fundraisers. Unlike traditional conferences, there are no planned speakers and no set topics. The delegates themselves choose what issues they wish to talk and learn about on the day. This is all collated at the beginning of the event, and a timetable created.

Inspiring discussions, unexpected conversations

Usually there are so many topics and issues suggested that the event has up to three sessions running at any one time.
Needless to say, fundraisers from very different organisations find they share similar concerns and challenges, so the sessions turn into valuable self-help exercises.
This style of event is new to most fundraisers, and is inspired by the ‘unconference’ and ‘barcamp’ model of informal but practical events.
Here is Fundraising Camp Oxford, which we ran just under a year ago:

Each Fundraising Camp is different of course, because they depend on who turns up. So some people have come to more than one to continue learning in this different atmosphere.
To help ensure that it is not just fundraisers asking questions, UK Fundraising always invites a small circle of experienced ‘guest experts’ from within and outside the sector to ensure there is a wide range of expertise on hand.
Fundraising Camp Stirling is kindly supported by Blackbaud Europe and Bruce Tait Associates.
