Salvation Army raises over £10.1m from shops and recycling

Howard Lake | 31 July 2014 | News

The Salvation Army’s trading arm has donated over £10.1m this year to the charity from the profit it has generated from its charity shops and reuse and recycling activities.
This is an increase of five per cent year on year and a record sum for The Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL).
The company has expanded its operations over the past year. It now has over 6,500 clothing banks, up from 5,200 this time last year. It has opened 15 charity shops, bringing the total number to over 190. It also now delivers over 400,000 clothing collection bags to homes across the UK each week.

SATCoL, based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, operates several subsidiary divisions: SP&S, British Bandsman, R. Smith & Company and World of Sound. Overall sales income and profits grew year on year.
Trevor Caffull, Managing Director for SATCoL, said that he expected the company to continue expanding, saying “we hope to be able to set another fundraising record next year”.
He added:

“I’m incredibly proud that we have yet again set a fundraising record. It might seem like a small action to some, but just by donating clothes to our shops and recycling schemes, or buying from our retail outlets, our customers have helped to raise millions of pounds for The Salvation Army. That’s no small feat at all.”
