Clockwork Pie claims to be UK’s “first digital fundraising agency”

Clockwork Pie, a new agency set up by Deniz Hassan, the former Head of Digital at Merlin, claims to be the UK’s “first digital fundraising agency”.
Hassan says that a search of Google six months ago for “digital fundraising agency” wouldn’t have found any specialist agencies. Instead there were “DM agencies who have a couple of developers trying to turn leaflets into websites and digital agencies trying to figure out the nuances between e-commerce and actual fundraising”.
Hassan has of course worked with and for agencies over the last 10 years.

“I always found mentioning the idea of financial KPIs to which an agency would be held accountable for, was followed by a sharp intake of breath and various caveats being strung out”. He describes this as “truly staggering given that we’ve been encouraging and growing online giving since well before we heralded in the new millennium”.

“Along with sister agency Big Mallet (a development powerhouse who loved charities but didn’t get fundraising until now) who invested in the idea, I setup Clockwork Pie to give digital fundraising a space and to give charities who wanted a group of people that not only live and breathe fundraising, but also have the skills to build and deliver amazing platforms to deliver it.”

He added that “we stick with you for the entire duration of the appeal… Your risks are our risks”.
The two agencies have worked with several charities already, including The Salvation Army and Lessons for Life.
Jo Inskip, Head of Media at The Salvation Army, said:

”Working with Clockwork Pie and Big Mallet has changed the way we work with our digital team. Their unique process of live workshop innovation and production is inclusive, collaborative, results driven and fun for everyone involved.”

Lessons for Life worked with Clockwork Pie to raise over €850,000 by overhauling the online fundraising element of their Big Ride for Africa event.
