Fundraisers’ salaries rise by 3.5%, says Kage Partnership’s survey
The salaries of fundraisers in London and the South East rose by an average of 3.5% in 2013, according to Kage Partnership’s annual Fundraising Salary Survey.
The figures are based on data from over 320 fundraising vacancies published by 112 charities from January to December 2013, and the salaries analysed include London weighting.
Last year’s report found that fundraisers’ salaries were largely static.
Kage Partnership reports that:
- of its 12 fundraising categories, eight saw increases, ranging from 1% to 5.5%
- five out of six categories saw increases at Manager level, with an average of a 2.5% increase at that level. However, community and events categories prominent amongst these at 4% and 5.5% respectively
- officer level vacancies experienced only a small (0.5%) increase on average. However, major donor and community vacancies showed a 3.5% increase.
- the number of junior positions has increased, especially during the second half of 2013. The category also saw the largest average salary increase – 8%.
- experienced direct marketing and major donor fundraisers are still the most sought after staff
The company also noted that
- charities are showing more flexibility on salaries in order to secure the most qualified staff.
- the number of maternity contracts has increased. The majority of women now return to work after maternity leave.
Kage Partnership, founded in 1998, specialises in fundraising, PR and marketing appointments within the not-for-profit sector. It qualifies its findings by pointing out that “the results are intended as a general guide and are based on advertised rather than actual salaries”.
