Charity Commission Register to show charities’ FRSB membership

People exploring the Charity Commission’s Register of charities will soon be able to see whether a charity has signed up to the self-regulation of fundraising as a member of the Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB).
FRSB membership is one of several new elements of “information of interest” that the Charity Commission has announced will start to be added to its central Register of charities in England and Wales.
Charities will be required to submit such information to the Charity Commission as part of their Annual Return from 2014.
Jane Hobson, Head of Policy at the Charity Commission explained: “The Annual Return is an important tool that the Commission uses to inform its regulatory approach, promote good governance and make sure that charities are accountable to the public.”
Alistair McLean, Chief Executive of the Fundraising Standards Board, commented: “This is a significant move that recognises commitment to self-regulation as a key measure of accountability and transparency for fundraising charities. Inclusion on the register will also help to build awareness that fundraising is regulated, strengthening public confidence in charitable giving.”
Other information that will be added includes a statement as to whether a charity pays its trustees.
