New education fund from Dorset Community Foundation
The Dorset Community Foundation has created the Dorset Education Fund to support education, learning and training activities for Dorset residents. It is the first time it has developed an education specific fund.
Grants are available for groups and individuals depending on the age of the beneficiaries, which can range from 5 to over 65, and the type of the applicant.
The Dorset Education Fund is open to eligible individuals, constituted community groups and charities within Dorset.

The fund is designed to support, through grants of up to £5,000, group based community learning projects which encourage people of different ages and backgrounds to acquire new skills, re-connect with learning, pursue an interest, prepare for progression to formal courses and/or learn how to support their children better.
The Fund consists of a number of elements:
-
for charities and community groups involved with extra-curricular projects for children aged between 5 and 16. Successful applicants can get up to £1,500 for projects which assist children in making the most of their potential and engage those who are particularly disadvantaged and least likely to participate.
- support with grants individuals who live in shire Dorset and are aged between 16 and 19. Applicants must be in education, apprenticeships and/ or training and will be required to evidence financial need. The first grants will be made in Spring 2014.
A legacy left to the Foundation has funded two elements of the Fund. Retired school teacher Marjorie Gordon wanted to assist young people into Further and Higher education.
The fund is accepting donations. Some of these are eligible to be match funded by 50% from the Communities First Government Scheme.
The fund opened for applications today and will close on 6 December 2013.
