Caroline Mason to be new CEO at Esmée Fairbairn Foundation

Caroline Mason has been appointed as the new Chief Executive at the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, one of the largest independent grantmakers in the UK.

She will take up the role later this year, succeeding Dawn Austwick who left the Foundation this month.

She is currently Chief Operating Officer at Big Society Capital. Before that she was Chief Operating Officer at Charity Bank, and has over eight years' experience of working with organisations in the charity sector.

She is also co-founder of Investing for Good, a social investment advisory firm, which was one of the first Community Interest Companies (CICs).

James Hughes-Hallett, Chairman of Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, welcomed Mason's appointment, commenting: "Her experience of working with civil society organisations and in particular developing the social investment market at Big Society Capital will be invaluable in helping the Foundation’s funding do more and reach those that need it most."

The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation makse grants of between £30 and £35 million each year towardswork within the arts, education and learning, the environment and social change.  It also operates a £26 million Finance Fund which invests in organisations that aim to deliver both a financial return and a social benefit.
