Wind farm generates £36,000 a year for Northumberland villages

Howard Lake | 9 September 2013 | News

Villages in Northumberland have received the first grants from a new fund set up to distribute some of the income from the EDF Energy Green Rigg Wind Farm at Birtley.

The beneficial area is very focused. The EDF Energy Green Rigg Wind Farm Community Benefits Fund will provide around £36,000 a year for projects within a 10-mile radius of the wind farm, with priority given to those within three miles.

Community Foundation

The fund is administered by the Newcastle-based Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

Ten community groups and parish councils were the successful applicants for the first round of funding. They will use the money for building repairs and buying equipment.
