Chance*ster combines raffles, skill and prizes to raise funds for charities

Chance*ster is a new gaming site that aims to raise funds for charities and good causes by offering valuable prizes that individuals can try to win by guessing their value.

Prizes include holidays, designers goods and electronic items.

Dave Paton, Chance*ster founder, said: "It’s about the fusion of online fundraising and gaming… By creating a platform that supports a growing number of charities, we’re giving people a choice of good causes to choose from, while giving them real opportunities to win a diverse range of desirable items and experiences."

He added that the odds are generally good for players: "some games have fewer than 200 tickets" he said.

Players don't have to guess the exact value of the prize to the charity. If their estimate falls within the range shown their ticket qualifies for the draw.

Chance*ster deducts 12% of gross proceeds as its fee and VAT and ticket sales. It then deducts the cost of the prize, which varies depending on whether the item is purchased through a retail partner or whether it is donated or subsidised by charity supporters. The proceeds are then donated to the chosen charity.

“Many of our games return 40-50% of the ticket sales to the charity", said Paton.

The Nathan Timothy Foundation, The Songwriting charity, is using Chance*ster. Director of Engagement John Quinn said: "There’s no risk or cost to us, we gain a valuable extra income stream, increase awareness to our cause and it creates a good feeling among donors to have a chance of winning the great prizes available."
