Patreon – an income stream for artists and creatives?

Howard Lake | 8 July 2013 | Blogs

Patreon is a startup that is offering a way for artists, musicians and other creatives to receive an income from fans in return for publishing new content.

Fans commit to donating a certain amount for each new track, blog post, video or recipe produced by the artist, up to a certain amount per month. In return the artist will offer incentives and opportunities for fans to say thank you. This could be access to an online chat, early bird concert tickets, or advice on creating music or art.

Patreon‘s founders say that it differs from crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter in that it doesn’t aim to raise funds for one project or item, but an ongoing basis.
