SPAR stores around the UK have raised £567,000 for ChildLine over the past year, beating the group's fundraising target of £500,000.

SPAR retailers, staff and customers took part in numerous fundraising activities including fancy dress, car washes, raffles, cake sales and 5k runs.

Patricia Wheway, SPAR UK Charity Controller, said: "SPAR retailers have put in a phenomenal amount of hard work to achieve this amazing result, and helped thousands of children in the process."

She pointed out that it costs £4 for a child to speak to a trained ChildLine counsellor, which means that SPAR's fundraising total will have helped nearly 150,000 children receive the advice and support they need from ChildLine in the past year.

Previous SPAR charity partners include NSPCC, British Heart Foundation, and Macmillan Cancer Support.
