Community Foundation for Ireland ends grants programme

Howard Lake | 7 January 2013 | News

Following a review of its grantmaking strategy, the Community Foundation for Ireland has ended its Grassroots Grants programme which it has run for 12 years.

The Grassroots programme will be replaced by 'Caring Communities' grants, details of which will be announced on 21 January.

Throughout 2012 the Foundation consulted with its stakeholders to assess where grants can make the best impact in the Irish community and voluntary sector. It used a grantee survey and workshop, sector research, donor survey and review of its grantmaking to achieve this.

The Community is an independent grantmaking organisation and uses the monies from its own permanent endowment and by donors and philanthropists to distribute grants to various causes and groups across the country.

The new strategy applies only to the grants that formerly came under the Grassroots Grants Strategy and grants are still available within the other categories.
