Like many others, we thoroughly enjoyed Reinier Spruit’s excellent lyrical reworking of the classic Redemption Song into Retention Song.

It set us to thinking we should offer up a festive response of our own, so Claire in our office has provided the JGA perspective on supporter care using Wham’s (slightly less classic) Last Christmas.

And like Reinier says. “Just do it. Get out your camera and tape it. It will increase your retention rates by at least 20%. Trust me… The best performance can do the opening plenary at all fundraising conferences in 2013! Who says fundraising can’t be fun?”

Last Christmas

I gave you a gift

But the very next day, you wrote me again

This year

To save me from tears

I’ll give it to someone different

Once bitten and twice shy

I keep my distance

But you still make me sigh

Do not mail me!!

Still no bloody thank you, yet a Gift Aid form?!

Well I might be AB1 but pull the other one…

I send my cash elsewhere

So many charities who want to be my friend

To follow another trend

I need to feel I matter

As a donor and a friend

Me?

I guess I was just another bit of “data” to send

A name on a database

With some value to shift

I never felt special

Just another average gift

Now I’ve found another causes that matters

Please don’t bother me again
