Irish Cancer Society posts big increase in income
The Irish Cancer Society’s income in 2011 increased by nearly €4 million on the previous year, according to its latest annual report.
Most of the increase in income was accounted for by a legacy of €2.5 million but even without the legacy income was up 7%, which ICS described as ‘a very successful result in the ongoing difficult climate.’ Total income in 2011 was €21.4 million against €17.5 million in 2010.
ICS reported that the success of the year would not have been achievable without two notable income lines – the Shave or Dye campaign run by TodayFM which raised €1.3m and the generosity of some key donors making contributions towards the development of ICS Daffodil centres.
Other fundraising campaigns which increased income in 2011 were Movember, corporate sponsorship and ICS shops performance.
ICS’s biggest fundraising event, Daffodil Day, continued to perform strongly but net income fell from €2.7 million to €2.5 million due to increased costs. Shops and trading income increased from €3.6 million to €3.8 million, with net income up from €0.8 million to €0.95 million.
The charity’s lottery income declined during 2011, with sales down from €370,000 to €313,000. During 2011, ICS received €209,729 (2010: €340,105) from the scheme established to assist charitable lotteries whose products are in direct competition with the products being sold by the National Lottery.
