The Zurich Community Trust, the charitable arm of insurance company Zurich, has chosen Alzheimer’s Society to be a national charity partner in a three year partnership starting in September 2012. It will also be working with Alzheimer Scotland. The charity joins CLIC Sargent and Hope and Homes for Children as the Trust#s third national charity partner.
Alzheimer’s Society was selected following a vote by over 1,700 Zurich employees across the UK.
The trust will grant the charity £50,000 a year for the next three years. This will fund up to 200 ‘Singing for the Brain’ music therapy sessions for 120 people living with dementia and their carers.
Steve Grimmett, of the Zurich Community Trust, said: “Zurich employees have been involved in this decision every step of the way and it’s great so many of them took part in making this choice. Dementia among older people is obviously an issue which resonates with Zurich employees and we will work closely with our new partner to provide meaningful volunteering opportunities which go well beyond the funding element of the partnership.”
The Zurich Community Trust, which is funded by Zurich and donations from its employees, donated around £3.7 million to 760 charities in 2011, helping them to support disadvantaged people move from dependence to independence.
