Three charities share £50,000 as Sanofi Patient Group Bursary winners
Global healthcare company has announced that Ataxia UK, Crohn’s & Colitis UK and Muscular Dystrophy Campaign will share £50,000 to help improve the lives of patients throughout the United Kingdom.
The charities were the three winners of Sanofi’s 2012 Patient Group Bursary scheme. This was announced in 2012 to reward applicants that could demonstrate that their project would deliver improvements in patient empowerment and information. It was open to patient groups in the broadest sense, whether they were local groups, social enterprises or professional associations.
Ataxia UK won the Gold bursary, worth £25,000; Crohn’s and Colitis UK the Silver, worth £15,000; and Muscular Dystrophy Campaign the Bronze, worth £10,000.
Ataxia UK proposes to use the funding to roll out a ‘befriender’ scheme to provide patients with help, advice, support and ./guidance.
Steve Oldfield, General Manager of Sanofi and Chair of the judging panel, said: “We were thrilled to have received over 100 applications to the 2012 scheme – nearly a three fold increase from last year and we look forward to seeing these projects come to fruition and deliver real improvements for patients across a variety of disease areas”.
