Directory of unpublished Scottish grant-making trusts

Howard Lake | 27 June 2012 | Blogs

Well, As Howard reported on 21 June, I have finally published a directory of “unpublished” Scottish grant-making trusts. It has been a long haul. A few people asked me how relevant it could be for fundraisers outside Scotland, so I undertook an analysis of the contacts.
I think that quite a high proportion of the trusts included in the directory should be of interest to fundraisers outside Scotland. I have discovered 54 with one or more reasons for being of interest in this regard.
37 support UK wide organisations. However, further research will be required to establish how many of them will only support local activities. NB As I have not included (in this analysis) any trusts that show a geographical interest restricted to Scotland, I think things don’t look too bad. Of those 37, 14 definitely support organisations in England. 28 trusts support international organisations. At least five trusts have close connections to England – e.g. a trustee lives there, settlor lives/lived there, etc. One settler was born in Prague. One company trust has offices in London, and at least one trustee was educated at Cambridge.
While I never expected this to make me wealthy, it has been very satisfying getting some great feedback. See my website for details.
Do get in touch if you want more details, or are interested in buying a copy.
