Classified ads site Donedeal has donated €246,780 to Irish charities in the past two years the company has announced.

Donedeal is an online sales site for second hand goods and it launched its bi-monthly charity drive in 2010. Every month a charity is chosen by a different member of staff and for the duration of that month 30 cent per ad (10 percent of the cost of placing an ad with Donedeal) goes directly to the designated charity.

Last month the designated charity was Ard Aoibhinn which provides day services for people with intellectual disabilities.

Donedeal is run by husband and wife team Geraldine and Fred Karlsson from Wexford. Fred Karlsson told the Sunday Business Post that CSR was not just a corporate statement but something that is exciting and visionary.

“We know we are not going to save the world with this but I think it is a really nice idea as all the staff get involved and the money really does make a difference,” Mr Karlsson said.
