Ancestry.co.uk use Facebook app to fundraise for Royal British Legion
Ancestry.co.uk has added a Facebook app to their page to enable people to display their Remembrance day thoughts online and generate a donation from the company to the Royal British Legion. The company hopes to raise £10,000 for the charity in the campaign that runs from 1 to 14 November 2011.
Ancestry.co.uk hosts more than 895 million UK records, including the World War One British Army Service and Pension records, enabling people to research their ancestors who served in the First World War. It worked with digital agency Essence to design and launch the Facebook app.
When users arrive on the Ancestry.co.uk Remembrance Day Facebook page they are asked to help Ancestry raise £10,000 for the Royal British Region by posting a Remembrance Day message to their personal Facebook page via the app. Each time a user posts a message via the app, the message shown on the user’s personal page will include a link to the app, with the aim of encouraging the user’s friends and family to use the app too.
For each Remembrance Day message posted, Ancestry will donate £1 to the Royal British Legion. A running total of the amount donated will be shown at the top of the app
Ancestry is promoting the app with Facebook ‘like’ and ‘sponsored story’ ads.
By the end of the evening of 6 November it had already generated £5,141.
